Today's post is all about a new skincare discovery for the beginning of the year, which I'm quite excited to tell you about. Just before the festive season I was sent an amazing box of goodies from Figs & Rouge, a brand that I'm completely new to... but if you've been around here for a while, you will know that I love discovering new skincare. This time of the year when my skin is feeling super dry I am eager to try products that will add hydration. So let me tell you a little bit more about the brand and the products I was sent to try.
Even though I've never heard of the brand until they kindly contacted me, I was surprised to see they are stocked on FeelUnique (a beauty website that I spend way too much time on), but happy to know they are easily accessible for everyone. Whilst researching the brand further, I found out that they are science led and results driven, as they focus on working with independent skincare institutions. This ensures they are producing natural products that will benefit the skin and provide effective results. Their balanced formulas contain active ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, Retinol and Salicylate Acids.. they have even gone one step further by creating a revolutionary new trademark 'smart nutrient moisture magnet'. With strong claims like these you can definitely say that I was eager to see how the brand would perform on my skin.
You may have seen from my swooning on Instagram that the parcel I received was beautiful wrapped, pretty much felt like I was opening a Christmas pressie. I also like the actual packaging of the individual products, it's quite simple but with a luxe feel. I especially love the fun designs on the limited edition tins of the brand's Hero Cream. So let me tell you more about this cult product from Figs & Rouge..
There's a good reason why this HA+ Hyaluronic Acid 3 in 1 Hydra Activ Hero Cream* is known as the brand's cult product. Essentially it can be used on both the face and the body. A multi-use product like this is always great for travelling and if you're face is normal or doesn't require extra attention. Since my skin is dry this time of the year, I did decide to use this for my body mostly, but have popped one in my handbag to use on dry patches of my skin when central heating sucks all the moisture out. It provides my skin with the hydration I need yet it doesn't feel thick or heavy. Of course I love it most for my body, as it's currently healing some dry patches on my upper arms and for my hands throughout the day. There's tons of good ingredients packed in this little tin such as sesame seed & avocado oils, aloe, cucumber extract and carrot seed, which are all beneficial for the skin. It leaves my skin glowing and just adds that much needed radiance back. There's a slight floral scent, very light and it always absorbs into my skin instantly, so I have no complaints.
What I have been using on my skin daily in the hope of keeping winter dryness away, is this duo above from the Hydra Active range. The Smart Nutrient Vital Moisture Day Cream* has a lot of strong claims.. not only is it supposed to provide your skin with ultimate replenishment, but it should also contain anti-ageing properties. I can only speak about the hydration benefits, which I found good but not amazing. Unfortunately without a serum underneath, it didn't provide my skin with enough hydration throughout an entire day. However adding a few drops of a light facial oil right before applying this, works much better and ensures that my skin feels nourished all day. I really like the lightweight formula that sits on my skin nicely without feeling greasy. It also works well under makeup as it leaves my face feeling super smooth. Again there's a bunch of amazing ingredients within like chamomile extract for soothing and aloe vera for anti-inflammatory.
The Derma Renewal Hydra Riché Night Cream* is definitely more nourishing on the skin as the name would suggest. It has a rich texture, which does take a bit longer to sink into my skin.. but it's not something I have a problem with as I like to go to bed with a super shiny face to make sure I wake up with soft & hydrated skin. I really enjoy how this feels when applied and love how plump my skin is once I wake up. There's great ingredients such as vitamin A, C & E to boost collagen production, blue daisy extract to soothes & repair and retinoic acid for toning the skin overall. This is definitely my favourite out of the two and I even use it during the day at the weekends, when I am not in a rush, so I have the time to let it sink into my skin properly.
Moving on to the Pro-Clearance Micellar Lotion*, which is my kind of product for removing makeup effectively. It really does remove all traces of make-up in an instant, without needing to rub or scrub at your face. I found the formula quite gentle and calming on my skin also, so I'd imagine it would be great for sensitive skin types. It contains coconut extract, glycerin and rose flower water, to sooth the skin whilst removing impurities. I would say this is that bit better than my regular Garnier version but then again it's pricier too. Either way I love it and I am making good use out of it.
Next up I have the Mattifying Emulsion MT+ Sheer*, which I will be completely honest and admit that I haven't even tried yet. It is aimed at combination to oily skin types, so I have avoided using it on my dry winter skin (I'm a bit worried at how it my skin may react). It is supposed to be amazing for mattifying shine and minimising pores, so I'd imagine it's great when used as a primer. Once spring comes around and my skin starts feeling back to normal, I will give this a try on my T-zone.. so I will update you then.
Lastly I have the Smart Lips Active Hero Balm*, which has been a hero product for my lips the past couple of weeks. I even panic a little when I can't find it, if I've accidentally dug it at the bottom of my handbag.. so it's safe to say it has become essential to my winter skincare routine. This lip balm hydrates my lips immediately with long lasting results. I usually apply this in the morning and won't have to worry about my lips feeling dry until much later in the day. I also like that it leaves my skin feeling plump and full, even when it's faded away. This is a great product to use for prepping my lips if I want to apply a matte lipstick. It contains olive essential oils, hyaluronic acid, favanoids and omega 3, which work on soothing, repairing and boosting collagen production.
As you can tell overall I'm quite happy with the brand and I loved being able to discover some new products. I'd love to hear if there's any products on here that you would like to try or maybe you've already tried some?! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below..
