When it comes to nail polishes, I rarely write about them unless it's a nail treatment or accessory. In fact I've realised that this past summer, I haven't actually worn nail polish too much. I will always make sure my nails/cuticles are kept neat and tidy, but end up skipping on the polish as it ends up chipping within a day. However I've recently caved in and splurged on the new Essie Gel Couture range, picking up this perfect autumn shade Model Clicks along with the much raved about topcoat. I didn't expect to have the same long lasting manicure results as all the positive reviews I've read, but I'm happy to report that Essie have proved me wrong. I have now had this duo on my nails for over a week with barely any chipping coming through, so of course I am super impressed and just had to share it here on the blog (if you don't believe me just check out my Instagram stories).
First of all I love the new design of the twisted bottle, it just makes the range look super luxe and it definitely stands out from any other brands out there. Even the brush has been created with a swirl-stem for a perfect coverage application. Essie claim that you should be able to get 14 days of wear with this new range, but of course that depends on your natural nails and how you look after your hands. With a toddler on my hands I'm always cleaning something or washing up, etc so it's safe to say I am not very careful with my manicures (hence why they don't usually last). But with this Essie Gel Couture Duo I was able to have perfectly painted nails for a whole week before I saw slight chipping on some of the nails and that for me is quite impressive.
With this new range you can also get away from using a base coat, as the pigments in the nail polishes have been specially formulated to help avoid staining. Since this is such a dark burgundy shade, I still used my regular Essie Grow Stronger Base Coat to be on the safe side, but I might skip on it next time to see if I can improve further on the longevity. This perfect autumn shade Model Clicks is from the after party collection and it's described as a fashionable aubergine wine (from what I can see on the US website as there isn't much info on the UK site unfortunately). The colour is intense & rich with just one swipe, but since it does have a thin consistency I found that two coats worked best.
Now the star of the show is definitely the gel-like top coat from this range, as it helps to dry down nails within a couple of minutes whilst also adding the most beautiful high shine finish. I need to try this top coat with other nail polishes from my collection (even the regular Essie range) to see if it would help achieve longer lasting results. So far though I'm convinced it's the Gel Couture duo that helped me achieve such great results, so I'm already eyeing up two other shades from the range... Take Me To Thread and Style In Excess. In the UK so far I've noticed around 25 shades in total which is a bit disappointing since in the US there seems to be 42 shades. However even with less choice, you should still be able to find a shade you will love as there's a great mix available.
As you can tell I am super impressed with this new range and look forward to adding a few more shades to my collection. Have you tried the Essie Gel Couture range? Do you love it as much as I do?
