Today is a really exciting post because I finally got the opportunity to try BareMinerals as a brand, with their newest release... the BAREPRO Performance Wear Powder Foundation* available right now from House of Fraser. I haven't tried many powder foundations in the past because for someone like me that has dry skin, it feels odd to opt for a base in powder form as they are usually mattifying. However BareMinerals have always been a brand that I have been interested in trying and I've read numerous reviews that actually recommended their powder foundation for all skin types. This new foundation is focused on the fact that your skin will still feel & look like skin, no heavy or cakey kind of finish involved 'have your cake, don't wear it'... it's all about letting your skin breathe. After trying out the BAREPro Foundation for almost a week now, I am definitely a fan and I wholeheartedly agree with the claims.
As soon as I opened up my parcel I immediately loved the sleek, black packaging and the fact that there was also a BAREPRO Core Coverage Brush* included (more on that later). What I loved most was the fact that this is a powder foundation but it comes in a pressed form, so there's no messiness involved. In the past the only few powder formulas I tried came in a loose form, which I wasn't a fan of and in turn it meant that I barely reached for those options on a regular basis. I'm all about using products that are quick & simple, without any mess or hassle and I have to say that this new BAREPRO Performance Wear Powder Foundation couldn't be easier to use... so straight away it already gets a thumbs up from me.
Next I wanted to talk to you about the formula, finish and coverage you can expect from this new release. BareMinerals have marketed BAREPRO as Glam Coverage, which means that the foundation applies smoothly, with a silky texture and a photo-ready matte finish. I definitely agree with these claims and I have to say that I was really surprised to see how well this glided over my skin despite the fact that it's a powder. The finish is natural, even with a layer or two, it still looks like skin and it feels like I have nothing on. I would say the coverage is light to medium, depending on how you layer it up, which is perfect for me. Another thing that impressed me with this new foundation was how well it lasted on my skin. I didn't test it out for the full 12 hours (like the claims suggest) but after 8 hours of wear time, it still looked amazing. There were no dry patches and no fading. So I was definitely impressed because it didn't feel like I applied a lot of product to begin with, yet by the end of the day my makeup held up.
Like all BareMinerals products this new foundation is created using 90% vitamins and minerals, so it uses skin loving ingredients for a healthy complexion. It also means that it's hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic, basically meaning that it's a breathable formula that doesn't clog your pores. At the moment I would say my skin is in great condition and it feels normal (not to dry and not to oily), so this foundation blended out really well and my skin didn't feel dry or tight at all. I would worry a bit if you did have dry skin because of the matte finish and the fact that this formula did stop my t-zone from getting slightly oily like it sometimes tends to do. So if you aren't sure what this might look like on you skin if your dry, then the best thing to do is to go to a counter and try it out for yourself.
Another great thing about the new BAREPRO foundation is that it's available in 20 different shades to suit a variety of skin tones, which I think is fantastic and not something that you come across easily with powder foundations. Since my skin has that sun kissed look to it at the minute (blame all the sunshine we've been experiencing in London for the past month), I opted for the shade Golden Nude 13 and it suits me perfectly. It's actually a touch too light around my forehead and nose, where my skin got that bit more tanned, but I can definitely work with it and due to the light coverage I will be able to take advantage of wearing it when my skin looses that sun kissed glow (sigh).
As I mentioned above I was also sent out the BAREPRO Core Coverage Brush which has been paired up with the new foundation. I like the style of the brush, since it has been designed as a retractable brush so it's perfect for travelling and popping into your daily makeup bag. The synthetic fibres are densely packed so it picks up product really well and transfers it easily onto the skin. I use this in stroke motions to apply the foundation, as I did find the slanted shape a bit too awkward for blending & buffing the foundation into the skin. Saying that, with just a few simple strokes I'm able to get a light coverage on my skin that I am happy with. So overall I found it really easy to use and it created an effortless finish on my skin. However if you already have a great kabuki style of brush in your makeup collection that you're happy with, then I would suggest you skip on the brush... because as nice as it is, I wouldn't say it's a must-have.
Overall I've been super impressed with the new BAREPRO foundation from BareMinerals and I loved discovering this new powder formula that my skin is surprisingly getting on extremely well with at the moment. I'm looking forward to trying more products from the brand in the future so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the brand? Have you tried anything from BareMinerals before? Could you see yourself picking up the new BAREPRO Performance Wear Powder Foundation?
