Whenever I read about or see NARS makeup products in person, it kind of makes my heart flutter a little bit... I know I sound like a complete twat right now, but doesn't makeup do that to you too?! For me NARS will always be one of those brands that I'll constantly check out, get excited about new releases, even if I only ever splurge on it from time to time (because let's face it it's on the pricey side of things). So I was absolutely delighted to collaborate with House of Fraser again, as it meant I had the opportunity to treat myself to some makeup bits that I have been lusting after for some time now and off course I chose NARS. House of Fraser has become one of my favourite companies especially when it comes to the makeup that they offer, as there's a huge selection of brands available including regular exclusives. If you haven't checked out their website before, then I definitely recommend you have a little browse (I online window shop regularly so there's no shame in that)... you won't regret it.
Now let me tell you a little bit more about the two NARS products I picked out. I decided to opt for their eye makeup range, as I've never tried anything from that side of NARS makeup before. As usual the brand do not disappoint when it comes to their packaging, everything is sleek & luxurious, although I can see the black rubberised casing on the eyeshadow duo getting a bit grubby as time goes on. Despite that I do love the black packaging as it looks & feels quite high end, which is what you want when you are spending big bucks.
So first up I've got the NARS Eyeshadow Duo* in shade Surabaya £25, which I have completely fallen in love with. These kind of warm toned bronze - brown shades are right up my street, so it's safe to say that the duo doesn't disappoint. This palette is described as a 'brown sugar and chestnut' duo and I find that they actually swatch a bit darker than how they initially look in the pan. Nevertheless I absolute love the rich, warm shades and find them to be super flattering against my skin tone, not to mention that they instantly make my eyes pop. The pigmentation is amazing, you only need a light tap of your brush to pick up the product and the colour payoff is fantastic. The shades transfer just as well to the lids as the swatches on the back of my hand, which you can see in the photo above.
The right side of NARS Surabaya is a rich & warm, red-toned brown with a burgundy sheen. The left side is a deep orange-golden-toned brown with fine gold micro-shimmer. Mixed together they work really well and you can easily create a sultry smokey eye within minutes. In terms of longevity the duo lasted around 4 hours without a primer before my oily lids will start to smudge & crease. However that’s something which occurs to me with any kind of eyeshadow regardless of the brand, hence why I never skip on an eye primer… and this is where my second NARS product comes in.
Now let me tell you all about my new hero beauty product, the NARS Smudge Proof Shadow Base* £19.50 (not cheap I know). I've been a huge fan of the original Urban Decay Primer Potion since I can remember and it has definitely gained a holygrail status in my books. But as a beauty blogger and my need to constantly try/compare products, I found myself picking out this NARS version after reading into the hype. This primer is more expensive than the UD offering and you get less product too (2g less to be precise)... but and this is a huge but I have found it to be just that bit better in terms of the quality it delivers. I know I'm cheating on my UD holygrail product and getting addicted to a pricier version, but I noticed a difference between the two from the first use.
So first of all the packaging is a long tube with a doe-foot applicator (similar to your lippies). When you first apply it to your lids it appears white, but as soon as you blend out the product it is completely colourless. The texture is incredibly thin, so it feels super lightweight and pretty much undetectable. It smooths out the skin and leaves behind a matte finish, which is perfect for applying your eyeshadows. But of course the reason why I wear a primer in the first place is to maximise the colour of my shadow and also to make sure that my eye makeup stays put all day... NARS truly delivers on these key points for me as the first time I wore it I had my makeup on for almost 12 hours! Even though the rest of my face had pretty much melted away, the smokey eyes looked perfect... same vibrancy as when it was first applied, with no smudging or creasing in sight. If that's not a good eye primer then I seriously don't know what is.
So as you can tell NARS have won me over again with their amazing quality and stunning looking products. The only downside I can think of is of course the higher price tag, but it is considered to be a high end brand at the end of the day so it's definitely a treat to splurge. I'm definitely itching to try their blushes next and maybe even some more of their lip products too. Have you tried any of the products I reviewed today? If so I'd love to hear your thoughts... if not maybe you have other NARS favourites which you can share.
