A Touch of Luxury with Lancome

Thanks to House of Fraser recently I was lucky enough to experience my first taste of luxurious brand Lancome, with a various range of their products. I've tried the odd products from Lancome in the past, but this is definitely my first proper introduction to the brand and their makeup products in particular. Straight away I am impressed with the packaging, I know that 'looks' shouldn't matter but who can resist packaging this pretty am I right?! Overall there is a luxurious feel as soon as you look at the products and with high end brands that's always a good sign, because if you're going to spend more money on something you also want to make sure that it looks good too (I know I do anyway). So let me tell you a little bit more about the products I was sent over...

First up I was sent two lipsticks from the brand's Rouge In Love range £22, which consists of  luxurious silver packaging - simple yet you can note the attention to detail with the famous Lancome rose engraved at the top and also on the lipstick itself. They are also quite small in their size (just 6cm tall) so perfect for travelling, yet they feel weighty and sturdy too. As soon as you apply the lipstick you will note a slight candy scent (quite sweet but not overpowering), which is right up my street. I would describe the formula as lightweight, because it feels very creamy and leaves a glossy finish behind on the lips. Saying that it will still last a good 3/4 hours when there is no eating involved. When it does fade away it does so evenly, so there is an almost stain like effect left behind. I found both shades really comfortable to wear, so if you have dry lips you would love the formula. I have shade 181N Rouge Saint Honore, which is a warm cherry red and super flattering against my skin tone. This bolder shade is very opaque, so you've got the perfect red lip with just a few swipes and it also wears really well, leaving a stain behind once it does wear off. The second shade is 200B Rose Thé, which is warm pinky nude with brown undertones. This is definitely my kind of nude shade and I just love how comfortable it feels, not to mention that I can re-apply throughout the day without even needing a mirror handy.

Next up I've got the Lancome Miracle Cushion Fluid Foundation £30 in shade 02 Beige Rose. Cushion foundations have been around for a little while now, but this is my first experience with this kind of innovative packaging and it's definitely been a success. The packaging is basically a chunky mirrored compact, where firstly you will find a smooth disc pad resting on an inner lid. Under this lid you have the bouncy cushion (sponge), which is filled with the fluid foundation. I am yet to use the pad that is included within, but I imagine it would be really handy for travelling and carrying around with you during the day for touchups. With just a light press on this cushion you will immediately see product transferring on your fingers or brush/sponge. I've used my trusty beautyblender and it has worked perfectly. What I love most about this foundation (apart from the funky packaging of course), is the formula. It feels super lightweight on the skin, I almost forget that I am even wearing foundation at all. The coverage is medium in my opinion (which is perfect for my personal taste), but from what I have read it is supposed to be buildable too. Once I am finished blending, my skin is left with a luminous, dewy satin finish - the perfect kind of finish which will easily suit most skin types. I was able to skip on powder since I do prefer more of a radiant glow and my skin type is on the dry side.  It also has an SPF 23 included, making it a perfect everyday kind of foundation and you can buy refills when you run out for just £19.50. I honestly have no complaints about this foundation and it's a firm favourite in my collection at the moment.

Last up I've got the Lancome Hypnôse Doll Eyes Waterproof Mascara £23.50, which is completely new to me as I rarely try waterproof mascaras. There's just something that puts me off a waterproof version, as it's a nightmare to remove unless you have an oil based cleanser. However after trying this out for a little while now, I do see what all the fuss is about when it comes to waterproof formulas. As you can see in the photos above the wand is fibre, tapered with a narrow tip and a wide base. Despite the unique shape there is one thing that I'm not a fan of when it comes to the wand and that is the fact that if I'm not extremely careful I will get mascara all over my eyelids. If I've just spent 10/15 minutes creating a smokey eye, you can imagine how annoying it can be getting mascara all over the lids and messing up my whole blending process. Saying that once you do have the mascara on your lashes it stays put, keeping a curl on your lashes all your day. Plus it creates fantastic volume and length too. So it really is all about being careful when applying it and hoping it doesn't mess up your eyeshadow.

So as you can see my first experience with Lancome has been a success and I am extremely impressed overall. In fact I'm already eyeing up a few more products from the brand such as the new Juicy Shakers. I'd love to hear your thoughts and if you've got any favourite products from the brand?
