Hello lovelies and happy Tuesday, hope you've all had a fun weekend not to mention a great start to the week. So today is my first mention for the 'you either hate it or love it' Valentines Day, as I'm talking about a fragrance I have been lusting after for a good while now (if you've been reading my blog for a while you might have spotted it on a few of my wishlist posts). So of course when Debenhams asked me if I wanted to take part in their "found it for your Valentine" campaign, I was delighted and chose this stunning YSL Black Opium fragrance as my perfect Valentine's gift. Now I don't make a big deal about Valentines Day and I definitely don't buy into the Hallmark holiday, but at the same time I don't think there's anything wrong with showing your loved ones the appreciation & love you have for them. I don't think Valentines Day needs to focus on just couples because it's so much better when you appreciate every important person in your life, such as family & friends. So not only am I going to talk about my perfect Valentines fragrance but I've put together a list of my top 5, with loved ones in mind.
Considering how long I have been lusting after the YSL Black Opium Eau de Parfum*, does it live up to my expectations? Yes it really does from the very first moment I opened up the packaging, heck I even loved the outer sleek cardboard box & contemplated keeping it for a while. Everything about the look of this fragrance (including the advertisements presented), focus on a dark, mysterious & sultry kind of feel. The overall aesthetic is described as glam rock and I couldn't agree more considering the black glittery finish and interesting design. The scent of course my absolute favourite of this fragrance because it's just stunning. As soon as you spray it on you get a sense of warmth and spiciness from the pink pepper, then you are immediately met with sexy, dark top notes of coffee & vanilla. If you look deeper into the scent it's not all sultry, as I also noticed more feminine white floral notes from the jasmine, patchouli and orange blossom. I'm not too sure how to describe it but the best way to sum it all up is that I instantly feel like a rock chick as soon as I apply it (sounds super cheesy I know but it's almost like it brings out my confident side). It's the perfect fragrance for this time of the year before all the summery floral fragrances take charge and I have been using it every day since I received it, so it's safe to say that I love it. If you haven't had the chance to try this out yet, it's definitely one to sniff on your next shopping trip out (you won't regret it).
Now as I mentioned at the beginning of the post I wanted to also share with you my top 5 fragrances for the perfect Valentines gift, whether that may be for your mother, sister or best friend. These are all scents that I have come across at some point and instantly fell in love with. They are all distinctive in their own way and they just stand out from the packaging to the actual scent in itself.
Thierry Mugler Alien is the perfect fragrance for anyone that loves rich floral yet woody scents, as it has sexy and strong notes of jasmine & amber. I think the bottle is just beautiful and overall it really stands by its Alien name.
Tom Ford Black Orchid just screams luxury as soon as you dare to look at it, so it's definitely a gift for that sophisticated someone in your life. The scent is a distinctive & mysterious blend of black truffle, ylang-ylang and blackcurrant.
Marc Jacobs Decadence is one of those perfumes that is almost too pretty to even use, I mean just look at that bottle... one word stunning. This is a woody & peppery scent, with notes of Italian plum, saffron and iris throughout, so it's not one for the fain hearted.
Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb is another fragrance that I've personally lusted after for a while now, it just has a luxury feel to it and it's perfect for anyone that loves fresh & sweet scents. It has top notes of bergamot, patchouli & green tea so it's the perfect floral explosion.
YSL Black Opium is of course part of the list because it's the perfect fragrance for me at the moment and I also think that the sultry, sexy scent is amazing for Valentines.
I couldn't recommend Debenhams enough if you're looking to spoil someone this Valentines, they have a huge selection to choose from and you could literally browse their fragrance/beauty department for hours. I'd love to hear if you've tried YSL Black Opium or any of the other fragrances in my top 5 list? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below...
