I have to admit I am quite excited to be part of this year's Beauty Advent Calendar from The Body Shop. With 24 Days of Happiness to choose from I am pretty much in the middle of it all as Day 11... eek can you believe there's only 2 weeks until Christmas?! I think The Body Shop are always doing a fantastic job when it comes to their Christmas gifts and this year they've really made an impression with some stunning sets. However I will be focusing on their Christmas makeup collection, which I am quite happy to be trying out, because hello I'm a makeup addict after all. Within their Christmas collection they have two different makeup ranges to choose from... Grooving Gold & Swinging Silver. As a bit of a change from my usual warm/golden tones, I'll be looking at the Swinging Silver Collection, focusing on the Silver Eye Palette and Colour Crush Festive Lipstick. To pull the whole look together I will also be showing you the manicure I created using Colour Crush Nail Silver Sequins and Blue Abyss Festive Nail Colour. I enjoyed working with cooler tones to create a festive makeup look & I hope that it might inspire anyone that wants to step away from all the warm, bronze looks.
Considering it's my first time trying out eyeshadows from The Body Shop, I have to say I was quite impressed with the quality of the Silver Eye Palette £16. First of all I love the festive packaging and I like that it's a sleek compact including a mirror, making it ideal for travelling. There's even a tutorial on the back giving you tips on how to use the shades available if you need inspiration. The four shades include a coral, grey, navy & silver, which are all shimmery, but it's a really nice metalic sheen rather than chunky glitters. The shadows feel smooth & buttery, which means they blend out quite well on the lid. The pigmentation is actually amazing, especially with the stunning silver shade which I think is the show stopper in this palette. It's also worth noting that you may experience a tiny bit of fallout from the two darker shades when creating a smokey eye like I have, but the colour pay off makes it worthwhile.
I've kept the rest of my face quite natural and toned down, considering the cool smokey eye, but also because I wanted to add more colour to the overall look using the Colour Crush Festive Lipstick in Coral Blush £10. Again the packaging of this is very festive with gold tones & a 1920's design, but the formula is the same as their top selling Colour Crush lipstick range. The shade I have here is a gorgeous nude everyday kind of shade with peach undertones. It applies so pigmented to the lips so you really don't need too many swipes for an opaque finish. The formula is very creamy & moisturising making this so comfortable to wear. Of course this means that the shade won't last all day, but I've mentioned before that when it comes to nude shades like these, I don't really mind re-applying throught the day.
To finish off my Swinging Silver festive look I painted my nails using the gorgeous Blue Abyss £5 shade, which is a navy shade with a satin finish. I couldn't belive how pigmented this was, all I needed was a single coat for a even finish. To add a bit of sparkle I used the Silver Sequins £7 just on the tips of my nails & then I blended it upwards. I love how it turned out, so sparkly & festive, not to mention that it lasted so well on my nails, which usually chip super fast so that gets a thumbs up from me.
I really enjoyed being able to play around with this Swinging Silver Collection from The Body Shop's Christmas range. It was so different from what I would usualy opt for, but I've definitely proved to myself that I don't need to stick to warm toned shades all of the time, so it will be nice to know that I can switch things up once in a while. If you're looking for some cool toned makeup inspiration or even if you just want to spice up your nails for the festive season, then I definitely recommend checking out this range or even popping in store to have a little wander. I'd love to hear your thoughts on my finished look and let me know if you'vetried any of the products here...
