Makeup Revolution have recently released a few more products, they are forever having products put out on the market I just can't keep up. However one of their releases caught my eye and I just knew I had to try out the Iconic Pro Lipsticks. With a super affordable price tag of £2.49 and gorgeous packaging including rose gold detailing, I was tempted to buy all the shades but I stuck with three as I wanted to get a feel of the formula first. The lipsticks offer two different finishes, a moisturising one and a matte one, so I opted for one moisturising nude shade & two matte bolder shades.
I really like the packaging which is reminiscent of MAC lipsticks, definitely dupe potential here but it's what inside that counts right. Well that's one part I'm not entirely sure of just yet, think I have to experiment with the shades a little bit more, using different liners or glosses to see just how well they work. The one that I am most unsure of is the nude moisturising shade You're A Star as it just doesn't really work for me. The shade is quite sheer to begin with so I need to layer it up, which leaves me with a very beige looking finish that looks more like a concealer on me then a lipstick. It also sinks into every single line I have on my lips as you can see in the photo below so I'm just not a fan of it. Will give it another try with a pinky nude liner underneath (but I need to go out and buy that first as I don't seem to have one in my collection, shock horror).
The other 2 matte shades are much bolder in terms of pigmentation and they generally apply better as you don't need to layer them up. But in terms of the formula being matte I'm just not convinced. There's still a slight gloss to the lips and it doesn't last as long as other matte formulas that I've tried in the past. Which is where a lip liner comes in… I definitely feel like once again they are much needed to make these lipsticks last longer, have more of a matte finish & generally look better on the lips. The shade Liberty Matte has such a strong purple tone to it and I really don't feel confident wearing it (it's just one of those shades I can't pull off, kinda like orange tones). My favourite shade of the three has to be If It Eats You Up Matte as it's the perfect shade of hot pink which I can see myself using lot in the summer.
These lipsticks don't stand out for me like other products have in the last few months, but for the price they are definitely worth checking out. Just bear in mind that they might need a little bit more effort to apply & to make them look flawless on the lips. They also need lip liners underneath, especially the moisturising formula (at least the shade I have) but lucky for you and me, Makeup Revolution have just released a variety of Lip Liners for £1 each so I'll definitely be checking them out and picking up a few shades to match these lipsticks. Have you tried these new Iconic Pro Lipsticks? What are your opinions on them?
