Before you think that this posts is going to be about blogging tips, I'll start off by saying that it's not in anyway. With just over 3 months of blogging under my belt, I'm in no position to be giving anyone advice, heck I still read every blogging tips posts that I stumble upon. What this post will be about though is my journey in blogging so far and how I am coping with it all.
When Caitlin from the luxury fashion website www.farfetch.com got in touch and asked me if I wanted to share their newly created infographic, which basically illustrates a breakdown of the skills and commitment needed to run a blog; it got me thinking of my own blogging struggles (if you can call them that) and I was more than happy to share this with you all.
So it might be weird to say that I've had my struggles with blogging so far considering it is a hobby after all and one that I am truly passionate about, but I have and let me tell you how:
- First one is realising just how time consuming blogging really is, I mean wow I really had no idea. Writing up the posts and taking a few pictures is only the icing on the cake, but we still need the sponge for the actual cake right (getting hungry now)… and that is where social networking comes in such as Twitter & Bloglovin in my case. As wonderful as it is for chatting to other bloggers, making friends & stumbling upon other blogs, it all takes so much time. That's one thing I am still struggling with finding a balance between how much time to spend on it all, cuz I definitely go past the average 10.3 hours per week and I only blog part time.
- Not comparing myself to other blogs/bloggers is another struggle I am guilty of and one I create in my head all the time. I know you're not supposed to do it but I just can't help it sometime (bad blogger I know). This can be so disheartening at times and it can really bring you down feeling like am I ever going to get to a status like that or can my blog ever become successful? There I said it I would like to have a successful blog and make something out of it, I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to do something you love & have passion for all your life. But as a newbie thinking too much about all that is something I have to do less of in order to appreciate how far I've come in this short space of time. "Live in the now, the moment" (that's my motto for this struggle).
- Finding a good blogging schedule is my last struggle and one that I've only started to battle with in the past couple of weeks. At the beginning I was somehow finding a lot more time to have posts scheduled for the week or even a few weeks in advance but lately I am finding myself writing the post literally the night before and perfecting it the morning that it goes live. The thing is I want to be consistent and have specific days when I blog so I do try to stick to it as much as possible, meaning that I can't skip out on a post just because I don't have it ready in time. So this is why I need to get myself organised again and have posts written the week before, but time just doesn't seem to be enough these days so if any of you have any tips on this please let me know in the comments below…
So although I am mostly focusing on my struggles in this post I just want to say a quick note on how amazing blogging has been and I clearly wouldn't be putting up with the above if it wasn't worth it. It has helped my confidence, it has made me settle into London life and it has helped me make friends and connections with some wonderful bloggers out there. It has made me realise how much I love sharing my thoughts on everything and anything beauty related, which in turn has driven me to be more creative. Not only that but I am also creating more makeup looks out of my comfort zone and realising that yes it's totally ok to wear that dark lipstick that I have admired on other girls and so what if I bring my daughter to the playground rocking a smokey eye… So thank you so much to all my kind and supporting followers and even the readers that like to stop by and have a read once in a while.
Now I will end this post by asking you to share your own blogging struggles if you have any…
