Makeup Revolution Haul & Mini Reviews

After months and months of seeing Makeup Revolution literally popping up everywhere, I finally decided to put through an order of my own and see what all the hype was about. I chose a few different pieces so I could get an idea of exactly what the brand is all about. To be completely honest after having my first taste, I wasn't completely wowed and I can't join in with the hype entirely.

Makeup a Revolution Haul

You will probably think I'm nuts and totally disagree, but I have to be true to myself and give my honest opinion. Yes, I know the products are super affordable and for the price the quality is quite good. But, and this is a big but, most of the products and the whole feel of this brand just seems too 'young' for me. I'm not too sure how to even express this in words but I feel like my taste for makeup has matured over the last year and I have become so picky when it comes to makeup, especially when it comes to dupes (which this brand is trying to re-create in a lot of their products).

Another thing to be aware of when you're buying online is that the photos displayed by them are totally deceiving when it comes to the shades of the actual products. You are better researching blog swatches and reviews to see the actual shades and payoff before placing your order, because I didn't and I got stuck with shades that are just not what I was expecting.

However if you are still in your teens/early 20's and you have just started experimenting with makeup than look no further, because I'd imagine you will love this brand, which is why it's raved about time & time again. But for me personally it just didn't think all the boxes unfortunately.

Now let's get started on what I ordered; I feel like I should start off with my least favourites so I can get all negativity out of the way and finish this post on a positive note (trust me there's definitely some positivity here). So the worst out of the bunch has to be Brow Kit in medium/dark. I should have know this was going to be a no go from the beginning since they only offer two shades (light & dark brown)! Unfortunately it's not dark enough for my brows and it has a hint of red to it which is not suited to me at all. I also feel like the texture is not great, as it lacks in softness & pigment (compared to the rest of the products). I know for a fact I won't be getting any use out of it but I'll try to make sure someone takes it off my hands and gets some use out of it. If your eyebrows aren't extremely dark then you could probably get away with this and it might suit you to perfection, so the £2.50 will be totally worth it!
Makeup Revolution Brow Kit

The next disappointing product is the I heart Makeup Blushing Hearts in Keen Heart. I'll be honest here and admit that the cute packaging was what attracted me most to this product. This factor ended up disappointing me, because as cute as it may be, it's super flimsy (the lid doesn't stay put at all) and it actually feels a little bit cheap. The other problem I have with this product is with the pigment, which is definitely that of a highlighter rather than a blusher. If you look closely at the swatch you will see that it also contains gold glitter that is quite chunky when applied to the face and that's again something I'm not a fan of. So if you are looking to purchase these, make sure you research the actual swatches beforehand so you know what the colour payoff is like. At £4.99 I just had higher hopes for this product but unfortunately those hopes weren't met.

Next up we have the Eye Dust, which I ordered in three different shades. I don't usually buy loose pigments such as these, because they are very impractical & messy, but for £1 each I couldn't resist. My thoughts on these are definitely mixed but this is where the positivity comes in, as the good outweighs the bad. The pigment of these is absolutely amazing for the price. The product feels soft & buttery with beautiful colour payoff! My only problem with these, is that the colours are not what I had expected to receive. This is where the misleading website photos have let me down, because I definetly wouldn't have ordered the purple & pink had I known their true shades. The brown/bronze shade is definitely something I can see myself using and I am happy to have at least one shade looking similar to what I had expected. I recommend these as they really are a great product but just make sure you research swatches of the shades on reviews before you buy.

The next product is definetly a positive one as I present to you the Ultra Blush & Contour Palette in Sugar & Spice. The packaging is sleek & practical with a handy mirror, not to mention a satisfying click (when you close it).  I can't fault anything here, as the great quality continues onto the actual products. There's a variety of different shades including a highlighter and the pigment is fantastic, a little bit literally goes a long way. I definitely won't be using this as a contour, simply because my skin is too tanned but the orange shades will add a nice warmth to my face. All in all is an amazing product and I am delighted to have picked it up.

Last product is the I heart Makeup I heart Chocolate Palette. This is clearly a dupe for the Too Faced  Chocolate Bar Palette, which I don't own but have seen a million reviews all about it. It even had a plastic clear sheet with cute names for each eyeshadow upon opening, which is definetly a nice touch and something you wouldn't even think of expecting at such an affordable price (I didn't hold on to it as it's not really practical but I thought it was worth mentioning). Packaging again is great for the price and the pigment is great in every single eyeshadow be it shimmery or matte. The shadows feel soft and apply really well, but they can be quite crumbly so definitely be aware of fallout. I wore these with my Urban Decay Primer Potion and they lasted amazingly without any creasing I n sight, I even had compliments on how gorgeous the shades were. My least favourite shades are the ones from the top row as the glitter particles are just a little bit on the large side and they are just not my personal favourites. However the other two rows of shades are spot on and I know I will be getting a lot of use out of each and every one.

So that's my first Makeup Revolution haul over and done with! Although the reviews are mixed and I have been left disappoint by some products, there's definitely fantastic products in there and let's face it they are so affordable, I really can't complain too much! I'm not sure if I will be making another order anytime soon, as I feel like a taste of this brand is enough for me for now anyway. But don't be put off buying anything yourself, because my slight disappointment is mostly due to a personal matter (cough cough clearly just a picky fecker).
Have you bought anything from this brand that you are absolutely loving or where you left disappointed? I'd love to know your thoughts in the comments below.

  1. I have the other version of the eye shadow palette Death by Chocolate and I love all the eye shadows and they're not glittery at all. Also I have a different shade of the Blushing Hearts blusher and again, no glitter, but yes, it's a bit of highlighting blusher but I like it. I've tried also some concealers, not good in my opinion, nail polishes, not so good neither, and lipsticks - some of them are great and some not. There are some hit and misses but in general I think they have great quality products considering it's a budget brand. xx

    1. Only 3 of the shades have chunky glitter so I'm quite happy with that considering the price! After reading only raving reviews I guess I just didn't expect to be let down but I was by some of the products. I totally agree though it's a great budget brand overall! X

  2. Loved this complete and honest review. It's always a little bit disappointing when the colour you ordered doesn't look similar to the one you receive. I have never tried this brand but was interested in the brow kit. It's too bad it has warm tones in it! It won't suit me neither.

  3. Great reviews! I am actually posting about my Makeup Revolution haul today. From your buys I also got the Blushing Hearts, but I think in a different shade - and I quite like it. I agree with you though - when you get older your make up tastes change and it feels nice to treat yourself and use something with a better quality. I think with this brand is just like with ELF and MUA - you need to stick to good products and avoid the bad ones.

  4. I have been loving Makeup Revolution products. I can't believe how nice they are, considering their price. That chocolate palette is gorgeous! Looks like such a good dupe for the Too Faced palette. xx

    1. They are a great budget brand no doubt about it, but I was just left disappointed by the misleading shades. The Chocolate palette is my favourite out of the bunch, I think I'll get a lot of use out of it x

  5. The palette and the pigments look great! The blush palette also looks good, I always tend to go for the same colour of blush (just different brands) so I think I'd really like this palette as the shades are so varied. It's a shame the other products were disappointing but I don't blame you, the eyebrow kit in particular looks terrible x

  8. Great honest review :) What a pity about the blush - I have always thought they look so lovely but like you said, the colour in the box and swatch colour can be really different. Glad you had some products that you liked though. I haven't jumped on the MR band wagon yet - not too sure if I will now either...

    1. Thank you :)! I think I've chosen one of the less pigmented shades because the other ones I've seen in reviews look so much better! I hope I don't put you off because there are definitely a few gems in the brands collection x

  9. Hi Alina! I just discovered your channel through the BlogHop. :)

I ordered some stuff off Makeup Revolution around a month ago. It was on two of their Iconics palette. I agree that pigmentation can rather be a hit and miss, even with shades in one palette. Seeing the first few lines of your post and the I Heart Chocolate palette in the pic, I was worried that you found something horribly wrong with it. It's a good thing that's one of the ones that were pretty good. I've been eyeing that palette for sometime now and will prolly purchase it soon. Thanks for the review! :)

    1. Hi there! Thanks for popping by :)! The I heart chocolate is pretty good I must say (the eyeshadows seem to have quite a good bit of fallout but if you focus on eyes first and then do the faces it should be fine). I guess there's good and bad products with every brand, I was mostly disappointed by the misleading colour shades from their website x

    2. I agree. I used to do my foundation first, but now I changed my routine to dealing with the eye makeup before everything else. I have the same problem with some Wet N Wild eyeshadows. The pigmentation is brilliant, but fallout can be a problem. I think it's not too bad of a trade though. Thanks for dropping by my blog as well! :)

    3. I find it so awkward to leave foundation to last (I always forget) but with a heavy smokey eye using these kind of crumbly eyeshadows it's a must. No worries :) x

  13. The blush palette and the pigments seem lovely! It's nice to have a different view of this brand, because I do feel sometimes with overhyped products/brands people just jump on the bandwagon and say positive things. This was an honest and informative post, thank you

  14. Your intro is exactly how I feel about this brand: great for the affordable price, and targeted for a younger audience. I have to say that I haven't tried it myself so I can't really comment on the products, but I haven't felt the need to explore it and make an order. Glad you found some great products in there! ;) xx
