Makeup Storage

Today I thought I would share with you how I store my makeup in our (new-ish) London apartment. I was super excited to finally be able to buy my own dressing table. You see rented apartments in Dublin always come furnished so we never had the opportunity or the space to buy our own furniture bits. With our London apartment being totally bare it meant we could start from scratch. I decided to get the ever so popular IKEA MALM Dressing Table, as it fits in perfectly with the rest of the bedroom furniture and it’s just the right size for my makeup stash with loads of room left for more (the ideal excuse to shop).

IKEA MALM Dressing Table

On top of the dressing table I have the IKEA FÖRHÖJA Box (set of 4 in white), which I bought last year when my makeup stash was starting to overflow. In the main large box as you can see I have miscellaneous bits & pieces, such as my makeup sprays, hand cream, cotton buds, hair brush, hand sanitizer, etc. In one of the smaller boxes I have all my eye makeup (excluding eye shadows), such as liners, mascaras, brow pencils & eyelash curler. In the other box I store all my lip products including lip pencils, lipsticks & lip-gloss. The last part of this set is a tray type of box, which I keep in the drawer with all my lip saviour products.

Next up is the Muji Clear Acrylic 6 Section Box (I can’t seem to find the exact same one online but this is the closest match). In this I store all my base products such as primers, concealers & foundations. This is fully packed so I’ll have to add another section soon for future purchases (yup I already know it’s going to happen, as I’m still in search for that holy grail foundation).

Right behind that I have my brush collection, which is stored in a Muji Clear Acrylic Round Pot and a Black Canvas Pro D Brush Holder. Half of my brush collection is actually the set I received with my makeup course. The rest is a mixture of Real Techniques, Ecotools, Inglot, Mac, Black Canvas & Urban Decay.

Lastly I have the IKEA MYKEN Table Mirror and a Next Heart Shaped Wire Basket, which I filled with potpourri with my two beauty books stacked underneath (I can’t seem to find this online but think it was only £5). To add a touch of character to the table and make it a little bit more girly I decide to add some fairy lights and this IKEA RAMSTA Diamonds Lightning Chain does the job perfectly.

Now inside the drawer I have my favourites *excited face* such as my MAC customised eye shadow palette (I will do a full review on this in the next coming weeks) but here’s a sneak preview until then. Isn’t she a beaut!

Then I have this plastic storage box (I honestly can’t remember for the life of me where I bought this, as I’ve had it for years) filled with blushers, bronzers, highlighters, powders, more eye shadows & eyeliners.

Makeup Storage

The rest of the drawer has random bits here and there such as this metal box filled with hair clips & grips, my really old GHD (I’ve had this for 8 years or more and I use it on very few occasions), a sample Body Shop Butter, Inglot Duraline and my unopened Benefit They’re Real Mascara (I’m looking forward to using this once my other mascaras run out).

As you can see I’ve got so much room left to fill this with beauty goodies so I’m looking forward. I know I’ll need to get more plastic organisers and boxes when that time comes but for now I think what I have stores my makeup pretty well.

So that’s it! Now you’ve had a peek into my makeup storage. Do you own this IKEA dressing table yourself or do you have any great storage tips? Do let me know as I love hearing about other makeup storage ideas… x

  8. I just love your make-up storage and organisation! I recently got myself a white desk from Argos and this is serving as my dressing table at the moment. I have my eye on some Helmer draws from IKEA and I hope to move all of my make up into these at some point in the near future.

So happy you're able to make your new apartment feel much more like your own home :)

    1. Thank you for your kind words means a lot to me! I have to say I'm very pleased with it myself :D! I think I remember the style of those Ikea draws (quite spacious for makeup storage). I didn't have a whole lot of room to work with so this table is perfect for me xx

    1. Thank you. This IKEA one is quite affordable in my opinion compared to other dressing tables I saw on the market and you could always keep some of the Muji drawers on top of it :D! I'm sure whatever way you do it up it will look nice though x
